This is a rare set of Mavic’s first Crossmax wheelset, circa 1996, 1997, and maybe 1998.  They were the beginning of an empire, and are a top choice for bikes from that era.  Even includes the original dork disc provided from the factory (see main photo bottom right).  One rim features the UCI Champion Du Monde decal

Condition

Cosmetically, these are worthy of a show bike and show very little wear.  Hardly any brake tract wear, logos look great, hardly any wear on hubs.  Mechanically they’re great to excellent.  The bearings are smooth but sound a bit dry, and they are just slightly out of perfect true.  I’d say they’re true enough to run as they are, but if you want them perfect a lil more nipple twisting could be in order.  Freewheel feels great.
